Summary
The summary gives you an overview of your declarations and entries. In addition, the required documents to be submitted for the application are listed for you.
If you need to make corrections you may do so directly for each page of the form via the navigation function. If you make changes, click on all following pages “Navigation”, right through to the “Summary” page, using the “continue” button.
Once you have registered you cannot change personal details such as name, gender, nationality or email address yourself.
For this reason, when you create an application account you should check your entries very carefully. If – despite this – you overlook a mistake, we will correct it when we check your submitted application.
Application documents
Curriculum vitae (max. 5MB)
Please upload an up-to-date, chronological curriculum vitae in table form, leaving nothing out. Begin with your upper secondary school graduation and include all details right up to the time of application, with exact entries regarding your education (schools attended, studies etc.) and any work experience pertaining to your future plans. Leave no time gaps: also list periods when you did not attend school, study or work (e.g. longer periods of travel or time off).
Please write the curriculum vitae in the teaching language of the desired degree programme.
Motivation letter (max 5MB)
Every Master’s degree programme has its own requirements for the letter of motivation. They are automatically displayed in the application form according to degree programme.
Your letter of motivation is probably the most personal document in your application. It gives you an opportunity to introduce yourself to the degree programme, and to explain your motivation for conducting Master’s studies at ETH Zurich. The letter is your chance to provide relevant and interesting insights about yourself for the admissions committee of the respective Master’s degree programme, and to show why you are the right person for that degree programme.
In the letter we also expect you to demonstrate how familiar you are with the desired degree programme and its characteristics. The letter should describe your interests, your competences and your motivation for choosing the specific degree programme at ETH Zurich. It should also set out your expectations as to teaching, and your future plans.
Matriculation certificate (max 5MB)
Here please upload a copy of your school-leaving certificate, e.g. your Matura, IB Diploma, certificate of general secondary education, GCE or high school diploma.
All documents which are not in German, Italian, French or Spanish should be uploaded together with an official English translation.
Copy of passport (max. 5MB)
Please upload a scan of your passport (only the pages with photo, name, date of birth and expiry date), which must be valid for at least another six months.* EU/EFTA citizens may also upload a copy of a valid ID card (front and reverse sides) if no passport is available.
The data will only be used for administrative purposes and is not part of the evaluation.
*If you have not a valid passort available at the time of your application you may submit a copy of your expired one.
Portfolio (max. 15MB)
For the degree programmes Architecture MSc and Landscape Architecture MSc you must submit a portfolio. No other degree programmes require a portfolio, and none can be submitted for them.
PDF file; max. size 15 MB. The specific requirements are found on the respective degree programme websites. If you have questions please contact the D-ARCH Study Administration office, who will provide any information you need.
Confirmation of internship (max. 5MB) (max 5MB)
Please check in advance whether you need to provide an internship confirmation for your desired degree programme.
Language certificate/Language requirements
Check the teaching language(s) of your desired degree programme in advance.
All degree programmes conducted in English require certification of sufficient knowledge of English by the end of the application period.
Please upload a copy of your valid IELTS, CAE or CPE certificate (front and reverse sides) here.
If you took a TOEFL test you cannot upload the results. Instead, provide your test date and appointment number in your application. You must also request the results from ETS directly (our TOEFL institution code is 9038). ETS will then send us the respective data electronically.
For all of the following degree programmes, which are taught in German, you must provide certification of sufficient knowledge of German by the end of the application period:
- Architecture MSc
- History and Philosophy of Knowledge MA
- Pharmacy MSc (+ instruction in English)

If you do not provide a language certificate by the application deadline, or provide an invalid language certificate, you will be excluded from the application procedure.
Declaration of consent
You must declare your consent for your data to be used and communicated in the context of the application for Master’s or doctoral studies at ETH Zurich which you have submitted.
For this purpose, please upload the completed and signed Downloadconsent form (PDF, 1.3 MB)vertical_align_bottom.
We reserve the right to check all of the details submitted in the context of your application. If you fail to provide information, or provide false or misleading information or information provided by third parties, we may at our own discretion declare your application invalid. This can result in immediate rejection or to the revoking of admission or enrolment.
University documents
Degree certificate / Degree certificate in the original language (max. 5MB)
A degree certificate / certificate of completion should only be submitted if the study programme has been completed. If the degree certificate / certificate of completion have not yet been issued at the time of application, submit a confirmation of completion or the provisional diploma from the university instead.
Degree certificate (German/English/French/Italian) (max. 5MB)
Please upload a scan of your degree certificate in English or German here. If the university does not issue a version in English, German, Italian or French, please upload a translation in English (preferred) or German.
If the university also issues a Diploma Supplement or HEAR report for those who have completed their studies, upload these with the English version of the degree certificate.
Degree certificate in the original language / the official language of the country (max. 5MB)
If your degree certificate was not issued in English or German, please upload a scan of it in the respective official country language (e.g. Chinese, Greek, Serbian, Farsi, Croatian, Russian etc.).
If the university also issues a Diploma Supplement for those who have completed their studies, upload this with the degree certificate.
Transcript of records/Academic record (max. 5MB)
Please upload an up-to-date official transcript in English or German. All achievements to the date of application must be listed. Printouts from the student account or screenshots of transcripts will not be accepted (for instructions see our “Academic documents”).
Confirmation of study status (max 5MB)
A confirmation of study status should only be submitted if you have not yet completed your study programme. Please upload the confirmation from your original university together with information on the duration of studies and the intended degree (title in the original language). All of this should be in English or German; if it is not, please supply an official translation in English.
Course content (max. 5MB)
Please upload the course Downloadcontent form (PDF, 1 MB)vertical_align_bottom, completed according to the specifications of the degree programme.
Note that some degree programmes (e.g. Computer Science MSc, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology MSc) do not require information on course content.
Please note: only use the Adobe Acrobat Reader to edit the form. It does not work in other PDF viewers.
Students of EPF Lausanne who are applying for regularised progression to a Master’s programme with no additional requirements (e.g. BSc Architecture to MSc Architecture, BSc Génie Civil to MSc Civil Engineering) should only enter the course content of the final semester of studies.
